We see the importance of stimulating motivation for reading. We do this in various ways throughout the school year for each grade level by encouraging students to read and by building reading material into all of our lessons. We ensure students visit the school library often in the course of the week in order to explore books and to read.
In Grades 3 and 4, we focus more on developing students’ technical reading to support study as well as developing their interest in books, but after this, there is a shift to comprehensive and wider reading.
From Grade 3 onwards we closely monitor every student’s reading development and record this in the ‘Student Profile’. This enables us to continuously differentiate learning and so maximise each student’s reading development.
